Hello! I’m Amanda, and I’m a design student who ended up in the finance industry! Many have asked, what’s my reason for landing in this business? Well, I did it in hopes of becoming financially stable at a young age. I have the mindset of not wanting to rely on someone to provide for me, and my goal is not only to support myself well, but also my family!
How has this career changed your life?
Ever since joining DPG, I have become a lot more mature in my thinking. I have learnt a lot of applicable life skills that many of my peers are not exposed to yet! This helps me to educate those around me better. I’ve also been told I’m a lot more confident when I speak, and am easy to hold a conversation with! Before this job, I found it hard to converse with people of different ages and life stages.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to many of my mentors, especially mine! My manager currently heads a team of 15, has 2 young children, but yet is able to maintain a good work-life balance. He is able to spend ample quality time with his kids to make their childhood a good one, and this is something only people in the self-employed line can achieve.
What advice would u give to people considering this career?
I would say, give it a shot! if anything- you learn a load of life skills & personal growth which is hard to get elsewhere. If your reason for working hard is strong, be it for your family or for your future – this is a place to break through for yourself! I feel that the best part of this career is that there is no need to worry about any corporate hierarchy.
